Empowering Student Voices Through Communication, Confidence, and Community
At Highest Speak, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to feel heard, valued, and confident sharing their ideas with the world!
That belief is one of the many reasons we are so proud to partner with Washington Talent & Education Foundation (WTEF) for their upcoming student public speaking competition, “Game! Set! Speak!” happening on Saturday, May 16th!
This event is especially meaningful because WTEF works closely with students from under-resourced communities throughout the Washington, D.C. area. These students have incredible talent, creativity, and potential, and this event is designed to give them a platform to develop and showcase their voices.
Over the past two months, the Highest Speak team has been working closely with participating students to help prepare them for the big day. Together, we have focused on building:
- Communication confidence
- Strong speech structure
- Stage presence
- Critical thinking
- Clarity and delivery
- Leadership through speaking
But this partnership has gone far beyond coaching alone.
Our team has also collaborated closely with WTEF behind the scenes to help shape and plan the event itself, including:
- Designing engaging speaking prompts
- Structuring the event schedule
- Coordinating speech flow and timing
- Helping select judges
- Supporting the overall student experience
And trust us… stay tuned. We have some very exciting judges joining us for this event.
Over these past two months, we have shared inspiring moments, hilarious moments, frustrating moments, breakthrough moments, and ultimately… very proud moments.
We have watched students go from hesitant introductions to delivering thoughtful, confident speeches. We have seen students challenge themselves, support one another, and grow in ways that go far beyond public speaking.
That is what makes this work meaningful.
Why Events Like This Matter
Public speaking is about far more than standing at a podium.
For many students, especially those who may not always have access to enrichment opportunities like debate, leadership training, or communication coaching, experiences like this can be transformational.
A student who once hesitated to speak up may discover confidence.
A student who doubted their ideas may realize their perspective matters.
A student who never imagined themselves on a stage may suddenly see new possibilities for their future.
These are the moments.. and the SKILLS… that stay with students long after the event ends!
More Than a Competition
“Game! Set! Speak!” is not simply a contest.
It is a celebration of student voice, courage, creativity, and growth.
It is also a reminder of what can happen when organizations come together to invest in young people and their futures.
At Highest Speak, we are passionate about helping students develop communication skills that will serve them for life:
- In classrooms
- In interviews
- In leadership roles
- In future careers
- In everyday confidence and self-advocacy
Because communication is not just a presentation skill anymore. It is a life skill.
Looking Ahead
We are incredibly grateful to WTEF for trusting Highest Speak as a training and event partner for this initiative!
Watching these students grow over the last two months has been inspiring, and we cannot wait to see them take the stage at “Game! Set! Speak!”
Their voices matter.
Their stories matter.
And this is only the beginning.
